Blood stains are among the most stubborn stains on clothes that are unsightly and quite troublesome to get rid of. The longer the stains stay on the clothes, the more they are difficult to remove.
Listed below are two commonly suggested solutions for blood stain removal.
One way to remove blood stains from clothes is to wash the clothes with cold water when stains are still fresh. Soak the stained clothing in cold water for about half an hour. Use an enzyme containing mild detergent which has proteases or amylases. These enzyme containing detergents can remove protein from clothes soiled with substances such as blood. After soaking for approximately 30 minutes, rub and rinse the stained clothing in cold water. For tougher stains, soak the blood stained clothing for an hour.
Another method of removing blood stains from clothes is to use a spoonful of table salt added to one quarter of cold water. Soak the stained clothing in the salt solution. Wait for the stains to disappear before washing with detergent and rinsing.
Until you are completely sure that the stains have been removed, just hang it to dry and do not put the clothing in a dryer. The heat from the dryer can permanently set a stain.
